The Arden creates 50 new jobs in Stratford
The multi-million pound refurbishment of a town centre hotel is providing a much-needed boost to Stratford’s ailing job market.
Around 50 new roles need to be filled at the redeveloped Arden Hotel, and bosses are holding a recruitment day next Tuesday (April 13th) to cope with the anticipated flood of applicants.
The news provides a beacon of hope after South Warwickshire Tourism issued a dire warning about the future of local tourism last week.
The long-awaited Arden is due to open its doors in July after nine months of renovation works. It is being transformed into a boutique-style luxury hotel to attract tourists from all over the world in time for the grand opening of the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
The 45-bedroom Waterside property is expected to become the flagship tourist destination in World Class Stratford and is a result of a partnership between the RSC and the Eden Hotel Collection, which includes award-winning Mallory Court in nearby Leamington.
Dozens of staff are needed to fill roles in all aspects of hospitality from reception, bar and administration staff to chefs, gardeners and room attendants.
Representatives from all departments will be on hand to chat to hopeful candidates, including group executive chef Simon Haigh, who has held a Michelin star at sister hotel Mallory Court for eight years.
Eden Hotel Collection HR Manager Jane Holdsworth said: “This is a really exciting time for the company and a fantastic opportunity to recruit a whole team of enthusiastic newcomers to our award-winning staff.
“Experience is not necessarily the key to success, what we want to see is the motivation and desire to succeed in achieving impeccable standards to help secure the Arden’s reputation on the world stage as a truly fabulous experience for all our guests.”
Anyone interested in applying for a job at the Arden is invited to the recruitment day on Tuesday, April 13th at the RSC offices on Chapel Lane (side door, follow signs) from 12.30pm to 5.30pm. For more information visit the website, www.edenhotelcollection.com.

The £112.8m Transformation of the RSC Theatres remains on time and on budget and will open in late 2010 with a varied programme of events and activities leading to the full RSC repertoire. The RSC meanwhile continues to perform in the award-winning 1000-seat Courtyard Theatre which was designed to provide a full-size prototype for the new RST auditorium.
